Cementing

Dispersants

Dispersants are used to reduce the apparent viscosity of a slurry and improve the total rheology by reducing the friction allowing for easier mixing and displacement of slurry.

Flow Aids

Flow Aids are blending additives that dramatically improve typical pneumatic equipment’s (loading/unloading lines, elbows, T’s) ability to provide a fluid-like flow for bulk materials; i.e. cement, silica flour, bentonite, Gilsonite, fly ash, and Kol-Seal.

Flow Enhancer

Cement Defoamers

Defoamers, or anti-foaming agents are applied to reduce the opportunity of foaming due to other additives and mixing water; i.e. salt or sea water. Air entrainment not only impacts slurry density, but also impacts the mechanical pumping operation. Defoamers come in liquid or powder form.

Cement Spacers and Washes

Cement spacers and washes are used to separate the cementing slurry from the applicable displacing fluid or completion fluid to prevent contamination, as well as to clean the well bore (casing and well bore walls) during the cementation process, allowing for a better bond to casing and well bore. These special fluids are required to perform the same or better rheology as the cement slurry, work in water based systems, oil base systems, or both.

Clay Control

Most of all petroleum reservoirs contain clay minerals; i.e. iron based, sodium based, and aluminum base in various percentages. It is of most importance to protect the water sensitive clays from becoming a damaging threat to permeability via swelling and, or migration. When water, and, or treatment fluid that is not in ionic balance contacts the sensitive clays, the clay absorbs the water, or treatment fluid into the crystalline structure resulting in plugging the pores via swelling. Furthermore, these swollen clay particles may flow thru the produced fluids and settle in other pores that further restrict fluid movement. Temporary clay stabilizers protect from swelling and permanent clay stabilizers protect from swelling and migration. A clay stabilizer becomes permanent when the ionic bond is formed with the clays establishing a crystalline structure de-mobilizing the clay.

Guar Slurries

In stimulation & specifically fracturing, liquid gel concentrates are formulated and provided as the proppant carrier and cross linked to provide the fluid properties to crack the rock and formation. The liquid gel concentrate is pulled from transport or totes, hydrated in a few minutes for a fracturing ‘gel’, buffered and crosslink as to time and temp, breakers added as to time and temp, along with a flow back surfactant, a biocide, scale inhibitors, finally and with proppant on a continuous basis. Previous to LGC’s, frac tanks were ‘gelled’ prior to the service intervention. The use of LGC’s created a new era in safe and efficient frac operations.

Product is typically compatible with fresh water, potassium chloride water, sodium and calcium chloride brines. Easily crosslinked with borate based systems and easily broken with the traditional guar/borate systems.

Iron Control

In stimulation treatments, iron hydroxides may precipitate and plug system to well bore. Iron control additives are added to hold the iron in suspension, rather than precipitate. This is accomplished by buffering pH of spent acids to low values.

Scavengers

Hydrogen sulfide gas is found in petroleum and natural gas. Oil or natural gas is considered ‘sour’ if it has a high percentage of hydrogen sulfide. Natural gas can contain up to 28 percent hydrogen sulfide gas, consequently requires a product to remove it from the well and production lines. Thus the application of an H2S scavenger. Biocides are used in stimulation treatments to prevent the ‘souring’ of the reservoir, but once started; the well requires treatment to combat the presence of H2S-corrrosion.
